Introducing: Greg and Shirley McElfish of Fowler On Site Cleaners


You may have seen our big van with the colorful horse and buggy on it around your neighborhood.  As the proud owners of Fowler On Site Cleaners Arizona, we carry on a family tradition of over 55 years of excellence in customer service.  We clean carpets, upholstery, area rugs, leather, hard surfaces including tile and grout, brick, and concrete, as well as RV and auto interiors.  


Our story:  


Greg & Shirley met in Connecticut in 1975 and were married in 1981 in Washington State.  Greg enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1982.  After assignments in Germany, California, and Turkey they relocated to Tucson in 1995.   After 20 wonderful years, Greg retired from the Air Force as a Master Sergeant in 2002 and we enjoyed 5 years owning and operating The Purple Garlic, a gift shop and healing center in Tubac. Shirley began her medical career in 1993 as an EMT, then moved into pain management as a medical assistant and spinal rehabilitation tech.  She is currently a Master Bonnie Prudden Myotherapist and Arizona Licensed Massage Therapist, treating people in their homes as time allows.  


We were considering various career options when the right opportunity came along -     


Shirley’s aunt, uncle and cousin had a dry cleaning business in Everett and Burlington Washington since 1954.  Cousin George carried the business to another level 9 years ago by offering carpet cleaning and the other services listed above.  He expanded his business but was disappointed in some of his crews’ lack of discipline and attention to detail so he downsized and stored his extra van.


Meanwhile, back at the ranch….


We had lived in the Tubac area for 9 years when cousin George and Aunt Dorothy came for a visit in January of 2008. While sitting around our wood stove drinking hot cocoa (it was unusually cold during their visit)  we heard about how George was really excelling with his on site cleaning business.  As luck would have it, we were thinking about what business endeavor we would go into next.  When we heard he had this top of the line, fully equipped van in storage we thought perhaps we would like to offer the same level of quality service here in Arizona.  


So, Greg took the necessary training to become a certified carpet care technician.  We went to Washington and had a marathon session with George, as he fine tuned our techniques.  He was a strict task master and we left with that extra van full of enthusiasm and dedication to clean everything and do it right!  We kept the Fowler name and logo because it honors our family and good old fashioned customer service.  George is an excellent mentor, and always available to help us if needed from Washington.



What you can expect from our typical service call:

  • An on time arrival.  You can usually expect a courtesy  call about ½ hour before your scheduled appointment.
  • A husband and wife team who work together on  almost every job.
  • A thorough walk-through and pre-inspection.  We will ask you about areas of concern, and will point out trouble spots.
  • We quote the final price before we begin - no surprises.
  • We may suggest additional services for you to consider having done while we are there, or at another convenient time, but there is no heavy pressure or up-selling.
  • During the cleaning process we invite you to watch us work, and to ask questions.  
  • We will ask permission before opening closets for cleaning. 
  • We ask you to remove any items that could be elbowed off furniture or knocked over.

  • Are generous with our time (you’ve hired us so really it’s your time).
  • Move some furniture pieces without extra charge.
  • Treat your home and belongings as if they are our own.
  • Protect your door jambs, furniture and corners with corner guards
  • Wear protective booties over our shoes so once clean it stays that way in the drying  process.
  • Are thorough, we take our time to do it right.
  • Use air movers as needed to accelerate the drying time.
  • Do a final walk through with you to make sure you are happy with our performance.
  • Damp mop hard surfaces on our way out, removing any footprints we have made in the course of our cleaning process.
  • Provide you with a free bottle of spotter, booties if you need to walk on the surface before it is dry, and our thanks for your trust in us.
